Sex Offender Unit

There are currently two officers that maintain a caseload focusing on sex offenders. All offenders that have been classified as a sex offender are placed under the supervision of the sex offender specialists. Our policies for managing sex offenders are designed to protect children and adults, to prevent further victimization and to enhance public safety by closely monitoring highrisk, convicted sex offenders. The offenders assigned to this specialized caseload are adults convicted of felony sex crimes such as rape, gross sexual imposition, sexual battery, disseminating pornography/obscenities to juveniles and failure to register as a sex offender. To provide effective service, the Sex Offender Unit works in collaboration with other stakeholders in the community. These stakeholders include the Adult Parole Authority, Summit County Sheriff’s Office, Portage Path Behavioral Health, Summit Psychological Associates, and U.S. Marshals. The Sex Offender Unit monitors offender’s compliance with the terms and conditions of their community control by completing numerous office contacts, field contacts and collateral contacts (i.e. friends, family members, therapists, etc.) each month.

Should the public wish to know if an individual is a registered sex offender, they can visit the ESORN (Electronic Sex Offender Registration and Notification) website at http://www.esorn.ag.state.oh.us/secured/p21_2.aspx . When searching this site, a user can either enter an offender’s name or an address. If an address is searched, a user can see all the registered sex offenders within a specific radius of that address.
